New generation KTM Duke 390 is expected to make global debut later this year. India launch will take place only in 2017.

The new Duke 200 would also adopt a similar styling albeit with a different color theme.

The 2017 KTM Duke 390 has been rendered based on the spy shot and boy, it looks sharp! KTM designers have upped the aggressiveness of what is an already aggressive street fighter.

Slated to make its world premiere at the EICMA 2016 in Milan, the motorcycle’s design derives a few cues from the flagship Super Duke 1290, especially the prominent fuel tank extension.

What is also visible in the new spy images are the riding modes. Yes. The new generation KTM Duke 390 will come with riding modes. It is not clear what these riding modes will be. We expect at least three riding modes on offer – Track, City and Sport.

Speaking about design changes, upfront it gets a bifurcated headlamp with LEDs, a new instrument console with more features like top speed clocker, 0-60 timer, etc. Side gets revised fuel tank design with sharp extensions emerging towards the headlamp. Also noticeable is a revised exhaust system and a new rear sub-frame. Overall, the bike will be more aggressive, and sharper. The heating issues are said to be taken care of and so are the vibration issues.

The motorcycle also receives a new instrument console. If we are to believe a new report, the instrument control of new gen Duke 390 is going to be a full-colour unit and that too with bluetooth smartphone integration. This will allow you to sync your bike’s data with your phone. Also, it will also use some phone apps, for example maps, and stream it on the bike’s console.

Reports also adds that it will get dual function forks, one responsible for damping, and the other for handling rebound. New Duke 390 also features new switch gears, riding modes and a new tail. We can expect new color themes as well. As far as equipment list is concerned, the Duke 390 will retain the dual-channel ABS, WP Suspension system. Sadly, the Metzeler tyres have been replaced by Michelin tyres.

Engine will remain same. 373 cc single cylinder liquid cooled, but the output will be different. Current one delivers 44 PS at 9000 rpm and 35 Nm at 7000 rpm mated to a 6-sixspeed gearbox.

They call it ‘the beast’ and it certainly looks the part but then you hear the numbers – 180+PS, 195kg and 2.6s (claimed) to 100kmph. Sitting in a room knowing that I’d be riding the menacing KTM 1290 Super Duke shod with slick tyres, in less than 24 hours, I could feel a tingle of anticipation mixed with a healthy dose of fear welling up inside my stomach. And no, it wasn’t the noodles I’d had for lunch. It doesn’t help matters when veteran MotoGP rider Jeremy McWilliams adds, at the end of the product presentation, that the biggest problem he has with racing it, is keeping the front wheel down in practically every gear. It’s easy to see why I didn’t get much sleep that night.

Thanks to unbeatable performance in conjunction with the versatility provided by the adjustable riding modes and PowerParts setups. Pure riding pleasure is pre-programmed – from the racetrack to the city and everywhere in between. The new KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R perfectly embodies the KTM philosophy: endless power, highest precision, perfect ergonomics, finest ingredients, not a gram too much, simply “Ready to Race”! The KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R – high-tech in an aggressive design with unprecedented functionality and razor-sharp sportiness reduced to the essentials. The new KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R transforms optimum performance with maximum safety into ultimate riding pleasure

ENGINE

152

The engine of the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R originates from one of the most powerful and refined V2 power units of our times, from the engine of the KTM 1190 RC8 R superbike. KTM engineers increased the displacement of the LC8 powerplant, not simply by boring it out, but by well-balanced enlargement of both, bore and stroke. Weighing in at around 62 kg, the extremely slim four-valve unit is one of the lightest big twins in the world, yet it still develops no less than 180 hp peak power and 144 Nm maximum torque

CYLINDER HEADS

cyllj

A major contribution is made to the outstanding performance of the LC8 engine on the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R by its state-of-the-art DOHC four-valve cylinder heads with twin plug ignition. The twin ignition system controls the ignition sparks of both, spark plugs in each cylinder head independently of each other using separate characteristic maps, thereby ensuring both more efficient combustion and a smoother combustion sequence. The result is more power, more torque, smoother running, even better controllability, higher fuel economy and lower emissions. Two overhead camshafts in each cylinder head use DLC-coated cam followers to operate four valves that control the charge cycle via flow-optimised ducts

PISTONS

PISTON

The forged piston structure on the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R, borrowed from Formula 1 technology, results in a high loading capacity, despite the extremely short and lightweight design. Although they have grown in diameter by three millimetres compared with those of the 1190 RC8 R, the pistons on the Super Duke R are a whole 47 grams lighter. In this way, reciprocating weight is minimised, thereby maximising the responsiveness and free-revving nature of the engine. Furthermore, the piston skirts have a state-of-the-art, hard-anodised finish. Not only does this minimise friction, it is also particularly hard-wearing with a consequently positive impact on durability

SLIPPER CLUTCH

The slipper clutch on the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R automatically takes the pressure from the clutch plates when engine back-torque becomes too high. This effectively prevents rear wheel chatter when braking sharply. In addition, the clutch increases pressure on the clutch plates with increasing engine torque, thereby allowing softer clutch springs to be used. This reduces the hand strength required for hydraulic actuation of the clutch – now it can be controlled with just one finger.

ENGINE MANAGEMENT

The electronic Keihin engine management system with twin throttle valves regulates the modern electronic fuel injection system, focussing on maximum power with predictable engine characteristics and spontaneous responsiveness with controllable throttle response. The throttle body has been enlarged from 52 to 56 mm in the area of the throttle valves for the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R in order to optimise power development.

TELESCOPIC FORK

fork

Thanks to multiple setting options for spring preload and damping, the extremely stable and torsion-resistant upside-down telescopic fork from WP Suspension on the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R also enables optimum adjustment of the chassis in order to suit the respective operational use and preferences of the rider. Not only can rebound and compression damping be set separately, but also completely independently from each other thanks to the ‘split principle’ (the left fork tube controls compression and the right one rebound damping). This allows riders to find their desired set-up quicker and more precisely.

CHASSIS

chasis

Mechanics can be so beautiful – above all, when designers can draw on unlimited resources. Whether it is the tubular space frame, the single-sided swingarm, the fork or the shock absorber, the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R consists of only the finest components. Perfectly arranged and tuned with one another, for only so are such excellent steering precision or such gigantic reserves created.

SINGLE-SIDED SWINGARM

swing

The jaw-droppingly beautiful, light alloy, single-sided swingarm on the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R is not only the lightest in its class, but also particularly and precisely manufactured and generously dimensioned – a potent partner when the Super Duke R unleashes its torque and riding dynamics. The rear wheel is fitted to an axle 50 mm in diameter and bolted in place with a 60 mm central wheel nut. The design of the swingarm is adapted optimally to the tubular space frame in terms of flexural behaviour and stiffness. A high-precision, eccentric adjustment is used for tensioning the chain

RIDER ASSISTANCE

The unique combination of a sensational engine with a perfectly balanced chassis supplies the rider with unlimited riding pleasure and a high level of safety in all conditions on the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R. The prerequisites for absolute predictability and highest safety levels are provided not at least by the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R’s leading-edge assistance systems: ride-mode technology, ride-by-wire, lean-sensitive traction control (MTC) and Bosch 9M+ two-channel ABS.

RIDE-MODE-TECHNOLOGY

meter

Ride-mode technology provides the rider with a choice of three ride modes on the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R, which can be selected quickly and simply with the mode switch on the handlebar. In conjunction with the ride-by-wire system, the selected ride mode influences the general responsiveness of the engine, its maximum peak power and traction control (MTC) intervention. “Street” and “Sport” modes deliver a full 180 hp and appropriately potent power development with a sporty traction setting. By contrast, “Rain” mode limits maximum output to 100 hp with smoother performance and traction characteristics.

ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM (ABS)

rear

Like no other ABS, the Bosch 9M+ two-channel, anti-lock braking system on the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R, stands for extremely short braking distances with optimum vehicle control. The system modulates brake pressure in such a way that locking of the wheels is prevented perfectly and the endo tendency is minimised when braking hard on surfaces with good grip. Depending on the selected ride mode (Sport, Street, Rain), the traction control system intervenes sportily/delayed to safely/undelayed. For racetrack use, ABS can be deactivated at both, the front and rear wheel. In “Supermoto” mode, only the rear wheel is freed from ABS intervention.

FRONT BRAKE

fraf

More than adequate deceleration is ensured at the front wheel on the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R by a Brembo twin-disc brake with two floating, 320 mm, perforated brake discs, two radially mounted, M50 four-pistons monoblock fixed callipers and a radial hand pump. The spacing between hand brake lever and handlebar is adjustable so that the lever is within easy reach for every rider.

Price

KTM 1290 Super Duke R is a great combination of style, comfort, safety and performance with unique design and advanced features. The expected ex-showroom, Delhi price of this magnificent naked bike is INR 15 lakhs which may vary in different states.

ALL NEW KTM 1190 RC8 R

rc8

The ultimate power packed beast is here. KTM creative designers ripped away all the stops in the artwork regarding engine constructing when it came to the 1190 RC8 R . The rider will feel  most powerful V2 engine of our  times and also among the best chassis in the world: absolutely street-legal. With the precision to cut out the others when entering the corner. With the power and traction to pull away from them exiting the corner. With the feedback and ergonomics to enjoy the 1190 RC8 R to the full.

There is no shortfall of compelling qualities in the sportbike category, but the Austrian-built KTM RC8 R possesses a concentration of characteristics that hit your senses with all the force of an avalanche. Foremost is the fact that this purebred superbike is built by a company largely perceived as a dirtbike manufacturer, but there is a whole lot more going on than that.

FEATURES

hood

Linkage

LINKAGE
The progressiveness of the linkage provides the shock absorber with refined responsiveness and still with sufficient reserves at peak loads. The position of the swingarm can be adjusted to the rider’s riding style and weight by the easily accessible eccentric adjuster on the linkage, and squatting on acceleration can be prevented.

Telescopic Fork

TELE
The high-quality upside-down fork from WP Suspension can be adjusted separately to preload as well as to compression and rebound damping of the suspension. Their adjustment ranges extend from country road comfort to tough racing conditions. In addition, a WP steering damper keeps the forks on track, even under extreme conditions.

Setting Options
The KTM RC8 R not only offers extraordinarily relaxed ergonomics for all its supreme sportiness, but also more ergonomic setting options than any other series production superbike. Footrests: two heights, each with two positional variants. Foot levers: variable lever operating angle and lever length. Seat: two heights. Hand levers: variable. Handlebar: two heights and two angles.

Shock Absorber

SHOCK
The sophisticated internal mechanism of the WP shock absorber on the RC8 R completely isolates the rebound damping from the compression stage, so that they can each be adjusted independently from one another. The compression damping can also be set for high speed and low speed. The suspension set-up range extends comfortably to racing conditions.

Brakes

BRAKES
The RC8 R’s brake system with the highest quality Brembo® components functions perfectly, sensitively and steadily. At the front, for example, two radially-mounted, four-piston brake calipers and two 320 mm diameter and 5 mm thick semi-floating brake discs provide massive stopping power.

Frame

FRAME
The KTM RC8 R’s thin-walled, 7.3 kg light tubular lattice frame of high-strength chrome-molybdenum steel sets standards in dimensional stability and lightweight construction. Its optimal stiffness distribution results in fantastic precision and unparalleled stability.

Swingarm
The intricately made light alloy swingarm makes a significant contribution to the outstanding traction of the KTM RC8 R. The position of the swingarm can be adjusted by means of an eccentric on the lever linkage. In this way, compression can be minimized and squatting prevented when accelerating out of corners.

Centralisation of Masses

CENTRE
The RC8 R not only impresses with low weight and perfect chassis geometry; the centralization of masses – for example, by positioning the silencer under the engine – also contributes to its easy handling and razor-sharp precision.

Wheels and Tyres

TYRES
The lightweight, Marchesini, aluminum die-cast wheels on the KTM RC8 R are fitted with Continental Sport Attack II tyres. These top-quality tyres provide outstanding ride characteristics and endless grip, whether on a wet country road or a scorching hot racetrack. With a decent service life, they support the unique qualities of the KTM chassis at all times.

Slipper Clutch
Saves power, helps in slides: The new slipper clutch not only opens when the engine back-torque becomes too high, it also closes with the force of the clutch springs when you open up the throttle. The former prevents annoying rear wheel chatter when braking sharply or decelerating – and gives the wheel just that bit of braking for a controlled rear wheel slide. The latter allows the clutch to be pulled and controlled with the little finger – which saves energy when riding.

Engine

ENGINE12
With its 129 kW (173 hp) of power, the V2 on the KTM RC8 R can be considered as the measure of all things for ultra-sporty twins, with maximum performance, predictable characteristics and high reliability. The KTM engine impresses with an extremely broad rev range and spontaneous throttle response, while supplying supreme ride quality.

Twin Plug Ignition

TWIN
The twin plug ignition system on the latest RC8 R fires the two differently sized spark plugs in each cylinder head independently of each other in such a way that more efficient combustion and a smoother, optimally controlled combustion sequence are achieved every time. The result: even more and even better controlled power, lower fuel consumption, and less emissions.

Injection / Engine Management

INJECTION
The electronic Keihin engine management system with twin throttle valves regulates the modern electronic fuel injection system on the KTM RC8 R, focusing on maximum power with predictable power development and spontaneous responsiveness with precisely controllable throttle response.

Piston

PISTON
The forged piston structure on the RC8 R, borrowed from Formula 1, results in a high loading capacity, despite the extremely short and lightweight design. This minimizes the reciprocating weight and optimizes the responsiveness and free-revving nature of the engine.

Cylinder Head

CYL
The main reasons for the outstanding performance of the RC8 R V-twin with 75° cylinder angle are the state-of-the-art cylinder heads with twin plug ignition, flow-optimized ducts and cam follower drive for the valves (intake: titanium; exhaust: steel). For tuners: Valve timing is adjustable via the camshaft gears.

Crankshaft

CRANK
The smooth shape of the crank webs on the latest KTM RC8 R results in low-loss running of the crank drive; the modified weight distribution of the crankshaft and a newly dimensioned alternator rotor improve the smooth running of the engine. Together they optimize the load change behaviour of the engine.

All New KTM 690 DUKE R 2015

ktm 690

The KTM 690 Duke R develops the lively qualities of the 690 Duke. This Bike is definitely formidable hot rod for enthusiasts and specialists alike, lightweight as a feather, lightning fast and fits best for everyday use.

690 Duke R is new and advanced model with bright orange rims and chassis with uncompromised DNA of any KTM model deserving the R in its name .

The bike’s backbone is a lightweight 9 kg tubular space frame made from chrome-molybdenum steel paired with a 4 kg lightweight, high-quality, pin-jointed, die-cast swingarm.

As the KTM 690 Duke R is more aggressive than the standard 690 Duke, its ergonomics were designed to put the rider into the perfect position required for hitting the gas. You’ll especially like the sporty angled handlebar, the convenient instrument panel and the sculpted seat.

At the heart of the motorcycle lies a single-cylinder, 4-stroke, spark-ignition, liquid-cooled engine with a displacement of 690 cc. The engine delivers a peak power of 51.5 kW (69.1 hp) and is mated on a six speed gear box. The breaking is handled by a set of Brembo brakes which include

Fame

Lightweight components in a large, lightweight entirety: The 9 kg lightweight tubular space frame made from chrome-molybdenum steel and the 4 kg lightweight, high-quality, pin-jointed, die-cast swingarm impress with extreme levels of torsional stiffness, providing the less than 150 kg 690 Duke R with excellent tracking stability.

Centre Of Gravity

The silencer has been perfectly customized for the Duke R by Akrapovic in participation with KTM. Not just does it spare weight; it likewise supplies extra horse power. Besides, it helps the brushed stainless steel pre-silencer underneath the engine in maintaing the Centre of gravity

Rims

rims

New rims may not appear to be such an innovation at first sight. What new rims mean for a manufacturer perhaps becomes clearer measured against the present-day level of perfection of practically all the components of a motorbike: Major improvements don’t just take a couple of minutes any more. KTM has nevertheless allowed the best technicians to play around with very clever computation software until an extremely lightweight, aesthetically elegant but still very stable and durable set of rims emerged from the casting die. Slightly lighter, but far less rotationally inert because the weight was saved predominantly at the rim ring. The result? Faster acceleration, shorter braking distance, quicker changes of direction – hence a faster motorbike.

ABS

abs

Just like the 690 Duke, the “R” is equipped with a very sportily tuned Bosch 9M+ ABS with outstanding endo prevention. One innovation is the Supermoto mode, activated by a dongle, with which the front wheel is still prevented from locking by the ABS, but the rear wheel can slide or lock as the whim takes you. After all, a KTM is a KTM.

Low Fuel Consumption

Thanks to the mechanical and electrical refinements, the new 690 Duke R is endowed with incredible fuel economy. Even though the Duke before had already won international consumption comparison tests with ease. Duke R riding is therefore not only fast, but also economical, while remaining unashamedly fleet-footed, sporty and dynamic.

Engine

engine

The Duke R bears the most cutting-edge single-cylinder engine in the world in its most powerful form: Apart from a full 690 cc, the legendary LC4 uses a freer-breathing Akrapovic titanium silencer for even deeper bass and an extra two horses as a result. 70 hp all in all – or one and a half able-bodied 125 Duke’s more than the next strongest single-cylinder competitor. The 690 Duke R has adopted such well-known series production goodies as the anti-hopping clutch and active engine casing ventilation. Genuine drive-by-wire also provides it with unexpectedly smooth, yet always immensely explosive power development; twin ignition with plug-selective mapping ensures the most effective combustion and sensationally low fuel consumption. Add to this service intervals of 10,000 km – never has it been as elegant, cultivated, sporty and effective to be powered by one cylinder. And never has the need for more cylinders been more questionable, since these horses make very light work of the lightweight 690 Duke R.

Egronomics

Three words: attack, control, effortless. Significantly more aggressive than the 690 Duke, the new 690 Duke R shifts its rider precisely into the position required for hitting the gas – after all, it has the same seat position as the EJC bikes. Bent slightly forwards, with a good foothold on the sportily positioned footrests, with great feel and plenty of freedom of movement on the taut yet comfortable seat, with perfect control on the sportily angled handlebar (840 mm wide, 38 mm rise). “Relaxed” Supermoto racing and command of wicked manoeuvres made easy. And still a good overview, comfort for relaxed trips and all-in-all surprisingly little exertion. Want to bet? Those who prefer to race alone can attach the rear cover to the pillion seat cushion and dismantle the passenger footrests.

Suspension

suspension

Well-equipped for every situation: The Duke’s 43 mm upside-down fork from WP raises the ride height by 15 mm for even greater freedom to lean. It excels with perfect tuning and an unbelievably broad spectrum of use, from relaxed cruising to racing around closed circuits. It’s tuning is child’s play: The appropriate level of compression damping is set on top of the left fork tube and rebound damping on the right. Why? In contrast to normal rebound-compression cartridges, separate oil circuits work independently from each other. Hence the compression stage setting only influences spring compression damping and the rebound setting only that of spring rebound. A precise setup is achieved completely in line with the rider’s wishes, without any mutual interaction.

Crashbars

crash bars

Good to have if the worst comes to the worst: The orange, steel crashbars protect the 690 Duke R if things should ever get too serious – so that you’re up and running again as quickly as possible without any damage.
